Amarok 2.0 has finally been released! You can now get Amarok on KDE 4 without having to install KDE 3 libs taking up valuable space. And it'll look the part too 
Here's a list of the most important features in the new Amarok (from the official Amarok website)
- Completely redesigned user interface
- Tight integration with online services such as Magnatune, Jamendo, MP3tunes, Last.fm and Shoutcast
- Completely overhauled scripting API and plugin support to allow better integration into Amarok
- Migration from the KDE 3 to KDE 4 framework, and utilization of core technologies such as Solid, Phonon, and Plasma
Another exciting feature is that it now uses MySQL embedded so larger music collections will be a lot faster. If you want to find out more about Amarok 2.0, see the release announcement.

I am yet to enjoy Amarok 2.0
I am yet to enjoy Amarok 2.0 completely but I liked Amarok 1.4 a lot but I am mainly a GNOME user so I've found exaile to be much more better Santa Monica real estate and less resource hogger (with obvious reason that it doesn't need any kde libs to run).
I will try it out when in mood

Im now using it as my main music player on windows. However, I still prefer the old 1.4.10 on my ubuntu boxes. The 'excel' spreadsheet type playlist on the 1.4 series is my preference as it makes it easy to see and fix tagging errors and omissions. The new theme has had some subtle changes, and is no longer based on the "ubuntulooks" Gtk theme engine. It's now based on Murrine. This means it has animated progress bars, and parts of programs can be translucent with Compiz enabled! Basically that means that things like the "File Edit etc." bar is slightly transparent to add a more interesting look. The panel now has a better look to it. It's no longer flat.

I have been on Amarok 2 for a while now, primarily as a music player in windows. I like the new interface and how quick it is for Databases of music.

Amarok2 needs to fix their music database. All of my techno music gets shown under their own artist instead of being grouped together as VariousArtists like Amarok1 does. So right now, my Amarok2 music database has a couple hundred different artists with only one song under them. It's impossible to find anything.
Yes, I've tried manually telling Amarok2 to show them under various artists and it didn't work...
For now, I'm sticking to Amarok1 until they fix this bug in Amarok2. If they ever do...

Amarok 2 is a complete rebuild of Amarok and in most respects is quite a different animal from 1.4. I will be watching future updates and hope that I come to love version 2 as much as the old 1.4...
