Loving the new Intel PRO wireless drivers
Submitted by miggols99 on 13 August, 2008 - 10:02
The new kernel 2.6.26 includes new Intel wireless drivers. They are great! The first thing I noticed was the wireless light was lit. And flashing when it was doing something
Today I noticed something even better. I put my laptop into suspend and when I resumed it, I expected I had to open wicd and disconnect...and connect again. But I tried to open something in Firefox, and it worked
Before I used to avoid using suspend because of the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting. But now I think I will be using it much more

A question
Hello, I want to ask a silly question. Does it means the Intel Wireless drivers are coded in the kernel and I can just remove the package "iwlwifi-3945-ucode"? Just like "linux-uvc" is already in the new kernel?
No - the iwlwifi driver is in
No - the iwlwifi driver is in the kernel (and has been since ?.24?), but the ucode package is still needed. It contains some proprietary intel code that (I think) runs on the wireless card itself and it won't work without it.
