I upgraded very soon after it was released because Intrepid has a broken Intel graphics driver and won't, for instance, run GoogleEarth. What I ended up with was a system in which no desktop effects work—not just the eye candy, but also the ones that had been crucial productivity tools. In addition the speed of graphics rendering, as measured by glxgears, halved.

I also tried to use the real-time kernel and found that the system would lock up with a few minutes.

I already had a home-rolled real-time kernel because the Intrepid one did not work properly either. This home-rolled had itself worked with Intrepid fine, but now I found myself having do a lot messing about and recompiling to overcome a host of little problems that had emerged, and I have ended up with a kernel that isn't even usable for a desktop system.

Other annoyances include Amarok, my preferred music manager and the one that has all the playlists and album covers I have collected, no longer working because Phonon hasn't been plumbed into PulseAudio. There appears to be no way to do this. Maybe I have to install all of KDE4 just to see if there is an option there. This is a real lot of very painful work.

In my opinion, Jaunty was rushed out to meet the release schedule and the result is a real mess.
